Vacation is coming to an end: Its Friday

Friday. Typically I’d be beaming, doing a little happy dance, and sharing my pure elation in the fact that today is Friday, but I am not, because Friday simply indicates the very near ending to a week long vacation. Today is supposed to be absolutely beautiful, as is the rest of the weekend, so that makes me feel a little bit better, but today and tomorrow I’m rather busy, so I can feel the time slipping away already. I am hoping for a really great family day Sunday, since we have no plans, but we’ll see how that goes.

Anyway. Onto the Friday fun. This week, once again, I am participating in Mama M’s 5QF and Friday Fill-Ins, both of which give you all a little more of asneak peek into my life. You should join in too – just answer the questions or fill in the blanks and link up! Enjoy :-)

1. If you could, would you go back to high school?
No way. I’m done with that. In fact, just this week I got the official FB invite for my 10 year reunion and I’m probably not going to that either. It wasn’t an absolutely nightmarish experience for me, but nothing is making me want to revisit either.
2. If a genie appeared and granted you two wishes, what would they be? (And, no saying “more wishes”.)
I would wish for enough money to pay off all my bills and take an amazing two week vacation, so I can come home and start fresh and feel refreshed. And then I’d wish for a brand new house, built to my specifications, so we can keep the one we have now and rent it out.
3. What kids show do you secretly like?
There are a couple. Lol. Little Einsteins and Super Why are good, if I’m being honest.
4. What is your beverage of choice?
Flavored water, followed closely by diet coke or diet pepsi.
5. What is something that you would change about yourself (or are working to change in yourself)?
I am currently working on being more fit. I have been doing my best to make good eating decisions, but am truly focusing on exercise and running. I am entered in a 5k in June and am right on track to be successful with that!

1. I was thinking that there are only 68 days left until we go to Disney!
2. I was subbing last week and I left my book at home, ugh!
3. Why can’t it just be summer already?!
4. My friend who is getting married in Hawaii was in my thoughts today.
5. One of my father’s favorite sayings was ?.
6. Exhaustion?! I haven’t slept well this week–I know that feeling!
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to dinner with friends, tomorrow my plans include taking lots of pictures and Sunday, I want to go to the beach!

A little reorganization.

I’ve been doing a little bloggy spring cleaning today. Some of you may have noticed I imported some posts, changed a few links, and got rid of the feed from my other blog. At the beginning of the year I started a second blog to document my lifestyle change – something I resolved to do for New Years. The essence of that resolution was that I was going to get myself healthier in mind, body and soul. This meant changing my exercise and eating, as well as doing things for me, most important of which included embracing more photography.

A couple of weeks ago I announced that I officially started my very own photography business, and I strongly feel that accomplishing that has definitely set me on the right track as far as being successful with this lifestyle change goes. That said, if I am going to do this right, my photography deserves its own space and attention. I do have a website, but I really wanted a blog associated with it for all the photo related things I do on a regular basis. I have changed my other blog, previously known as My Challenge To Change, into a photography only blog simply titled BMP Photography – The Blog. The url has changed as well, to I’d love it if you went over there and followed me!

The fitness portion of my lifestyle change is not forgotten. I have decided to import those specific posts here to my “regular” blog for a couple of reasons. First, I have more followers here and the more support the better. Second, because I always just thought of that other blog as my “second” blog – not something I paid much attention to, and this process is definitely something that needs my attention!

So where am I? I finished The Shred two months ago and have since signed myself up for a 5k race in June. I am well on my way to being prepared for that and just this Monday ran outside for my first time in a very long time. I am thrilled at my progress so far and have a lot of confidence in myself. After that who knows what will happen. I can only hope that it will spark an interest in more running and more successes. I have joined a class at the gym with my mother that incorporates an hour of goal-setting and healthy eating habits discussion and an hour of exercise with a trainer into my routine every week and I really enjoy that so far. I’m trying to make this happen for myself. And at this point, that is all I can really do.

I feel refreshed after reorganizing things. If only I could say so much for my house!

Celebrate Life!

I want to know why more people don’t want to celebrate the things that are meant to be celebrated! Why is it more people are willing to just let the days go by rather than taking advantage of the few where it is okay to throw caution to the wind and let your hair down?

My step-father’s father’s birthday (my step-grandfather? I don’t know if I can think of him that way… we’re not that close) is this weekend and he is turning 80. Of course that is a huge milestone and we are getting together Saturday with whoever from the family can make it to celebrate. My mother’s birthday is tomorrow, and when I asked her “what about your birthday” her response was “what about it?” I immediately hatched a plan to celebrate whether she wanted to or not. Your birthday is the one day a year you get to celebrate YOU!

A couple weeks ago someone commented on a post I made about going away to celebrate our third wedding anniversary. It was about how great it was that we were celebrating every year. It never even occurred to me that other people don’t celebrate every year, but it is obviously the case. Why not celebrate every year?! The way I see it, every year we make it as a couple is an entire year of successes, of growth, of more love. Whats not to celebrate?! I also read a post this week about someone who found it odd that she and her husband were congratulated for being married for seven years. They should be congratulated! That is a long time!

My point is that life is flying by. I don’t know about you, but my days seem to be going at lightening speed, my son is growing up before my eyes, and I certainly am not getting any younger. Why not take a moment on those rare occasions we are given the chance to celebrate something and really do it? As far as I’m concerned life is too short, and far too uncertain, to not take full advantage.

I did it and I couldn’t be happier.

I went for a run today. A great run. Outside. It was fantastic and I did a lot better than I thought I would. I can’t wait to continue doing this because besides doing better than I thought I would I feel great too! Maybe a result of being on a sort-of high… I don’t know. But I want to do it again, so that is a good sign.

Also, we got my son a bike seat and we went for our first ride yesterday. It was a bit tough to get him in there at first, but once we did he didn’t want to get out. He loved it and I am so excited to add this option as an activity for us. Once I pick him up from daycare we’re going to come home and go again.

Washing Machine Monster

Did I tell you I was on vacation this week? ‘Cuz I am. Brian kindly let me sleep in this morning instead of getting up before Collin like I usually do since he was going to take him to daycare. Oh wait. No he didn’t. Collin just slept until Brian actually had to go in and get him ready. Why does that always happen?! He never sleeps that late when I have to get up and get ready…

Anyway. I got up as they were leaving so I could say goodbye to my little man and my big man and as soon as they walked out the door I went to the living room and stripped the covers off our couch cushions. They needed to be washed so bad, and I love having them all clean (even though it says to spot treat only. Oops. A little oxy and the delicate cycle does wonders!). I put them in the wash and got some cereal and sat down at the computer to start my day. Lazy, casual, whatever you’d like to call it. Maybe an hour later I finally got off my butt and folded the laundry that was in the dryer so I could put the cushion covers in on air dry.

I don’t remember what I did next, but it wasn’t long before I was headed down to our basement, which is finished, to park myself at our desktop computer where I needed to work on a DVD slideshow I am making for someone. Except I couldn’t work on it. Because there was water and completely destroyed ceiling tiles everywhere. Sweet. Perfect start to my vacation!!

Here is where I reinforce that everything happens for a reason.
I called Brian on his cell phone just looking for advice on what to do. He says make sure the computer gets dried off, but not to worry because he was on his way home! Excellent timing. He should have been working all day but the windows he was supposed to be installing were ordered in the wrong size so he was coming home early. He arrived and assessed the damage, which looked worse than it was, and I just sat and did what I could.

Eventually, after playing with many faucets and running a lot of water, we turned the washer on and GUSH. Water everywhere again. We found the culprit. Brian ended up taking the washer apart and lo and behold there was a sock eaten alive and spit back out. Okay, that was dramatic. But our washing machine is a sock monster and it did get clogged up and there was water everywhere.

Not what I had in mind for my day. Not at all. But, I’m on vacation, so I guess its okay. Better now than when nobody was home (silver lining?). I have already moved on. But I definitely don’t trust my washing machine anymore.
