Summer

Well, last Sunday was the first official day of summer, but you never would’ve guessed it then. This weekend, though, is looking MUCH better as far as the weather goes, and feels a lot like summer to me, since I’m officially on summer vacation! Yay! The sun is shining today and I could not be happier to be home with no agenda for who knows how long.

Collin and I started off our summer right with a great play date yesterday afternoon. I picked him up from daycare a little early and we headed out to play with some new friends. Leaving daycare was a little emotional. Even though we know he’s going back, and I even intend to bring him there to play over the summer, Penny was really sad about his leaving. I, of course, am thrilled to have more time with my little man, but she has been a big part of his life thus far, so I can understand how it isn’t easy. It is comforting to know she loves him that much!

We don’t have all that much lined up for summer plans yet, but there is plenty of time and plenty of fun to be had. Hopefully we’ll have many more play dates to come. Tomorrow we are heading to Gloucester to visit Collin’s Great-Grampy and its Fiesta weekend, so we may check out some of those events, too. Next weekend is the fourth of July, which will be a blast, as well as Collin’s first baseball game! We’re going to go see the Fishercats play in Manchester. Hopefully it goes well and he lasts through the whole thing – I think there are even fireworks at the end.

Beyond that I’m just not sure. We have camping weekend booked, and I cannot wait to see how we do as a family with that. It will be fun, without a doubt. And of course Collin’s birthday will be coming up. I believe at some point we’ll be headed to York’s Wild Animal Kingdom. I am thrilled to see what else this summer has in store for us.

Yay for vacation!

Great Family Weekend

This past weekend was a very busy, but very great family-filled weekend. I love these types of weekends because I am reminded of just how blessed we are and how truly happy we can be. It is really something special to be surrounded by such a great family.

Friday night we started our weekend off by going out to dinner to celebrate Uncle Jonathan’s birthday. We went to the Olive Garden (YUM!) with Juan, Nana and Pepere. Collin was very well behaved and got to try out a booster seat instead of a high chair for the first time due to a slip by by the hostess. All went well, he was fine, and we had a great dinner.

Saturday we had our last swim class then after Brian and Collin went home I went out for a manicure and a pedicure. Boy was that nice! It was even better than usual because I didn’t have to pay – it was my Mother’s Day gift. After that and a couple errands I went home and we cleaned and got ready for company. We were celebrating Father’s Day with the whole family and had a wonderful time. For his first Father’s Day Collin and I gave Brian a “Life is Good” tshirt (a new love of his!) and new Teva sandals. Doesn’t sound like a whole lot, but he loved them and thats all that matters! Anyway, everyone brought a little something and we had a BBQ and enjoyed each others company.

Sunday we ventured to Connecticut for our first overnight getaway with all three of us. It was a huge success! We went down for the night so we could attend the wedding celebration of Brian’s cousin, Lauren, and her husband, Andrew. The “Team Doynicios” extravaganza was a great time!

After a long car ride we checked into our hotel, went out for a late lunch, then relaxed for a little bit. Colling contently played in the hotel with his trucks and other toys we brough. Soon enough we got ready to go then headed out to the beautiful hotel where the celebration was being held. Collin was tired and fell asleep during the ceremony, which was perfect timing. He slept through some of the cocktail hour and woke just in time to get a great big family photo taken.

Once we headed into the ballroom for the reception Collin became quite the comedian and entertainer. He was full of it – clapping, dancing, sticking his tongue out for the professional photographer. It was funny, but in all seriousness he was SO good. He lasted until about 10:15 (I think?) and then it was time for bed. We got back to the hotel and he crashed.

Monday we got up and ready to go. We headed to a brunch for the wedding guests then drove to the Mystic Aquarium for the day. It was rainy, but we had a good time. Collin loved looking at the fish and loved even more the sea lions. On our way out he picked a stuffed sea lion and would not let it go. This ridiculously prices spotted sea lion stuffed animal made him so darn happy that I could not NOT get it for him. He held it the entire ride home.

All in all a great weekend. I can only hope that as Collin grows we can continue having such great times together as a family and he learns to appreciate them as much as I do.

Congratulations Lauren and Andrew!
